First Ladies Luncheon Honoring Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya sends more than $2 million worth of supplies and equipment to Kenya
On Friday, March 18, 2016 Project C.U.R.E. hosted the 2016 First Ladies Luncheon in Phoenix, Arizona honoring Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya to raise awareness of global healthcare needs and to support the delivery of life-saving medical supplies and equipment to medical professionals, and patients under their care in Kenya.
During her stay in Arizona, the First Lady and her staff had a busy and fulfilling schedule. Day one’s itinerary included a tour of the Project C.U.R.E. warehouse, loading of boxes of much needed medical supplies into the first of four 40-foot containers that will was sponsored by Boca Java and shipped just days before the event.
Her Excellency also shared her passion and discussed her Beyond Zero Campaign with International students at the Thunderbird School of Global Management. With her campaign The First Lady is bringing prenatal and postnatal medical treatment to women and children in Kenya by creating mobile clinics that can reach the most rural areas of the country. She’s so passionate about this cause -- and has been running marathons to raise money. In fact, she hosted her own half marathon just a week before her to trip to Phoenix.
The Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine hosted the exclusive VIP Reception the night before the luncheon, to officially welcome the First Lady to Arizona, and give the nearly 100 table hosts a chance to meet the First Lady before the luncheon. A group of African drummers and dancers kicked off the First Lady’s speech thanking everyone for attending, and recounting some of her favorite moments of the week. In reference to the container loading Her Excellency said, "It filled me with awe and gratitude at the immense generosity of you and your partners. Thank you so much for your valiant and persistent work and for bringing together so many to work toward such a valiant and noble cause."
The week concluded with the First Ladies Luncheon at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn. Nearly 1,000 of the city and state's business and community leaders, and generous philanthropists attended the invitation-only luncheon and raised enough funding to deliver four containers of medical supplies and equipment valued at more than $2 million to hospitals and clinics in Kenya. Joining Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta at the luncheon was Honorary Event Chair Mrs. Cindy H. McCain; First Lady of Arizona, Mrs. Angela Ducey; RTI International Vice President and Presenting Sponsor, Melinda Taylor; Project C.U.R.E. co-founder, Dr. AnnaMarie Jackson; and founder of Friends of Africa International, Bonnie Bishop.
