Kits for Kids Eagle Scout Project with Lasting Impact

January 28, 2026 | Project C.U.R.E

At Project C.U.R.E., some of our most meaningful work begins with a simple question: how can we help?

That question was at the heart of a Kits for Kids Eagle Scout project led by Tyler, a high school student in Colorado, who brought together fellow Scouts to assemble Project C.U.R.E.’s Kits for Kids. What started as a requirement for Scouting’s highest rank quickly became something much bigger. A hands-on service project with global impact, and a legacy Tyler hopes other Scouts will carry forward.

Discovering Project C.U.R.E.

Tyler first learned about Project C.U.R.E. through a connection within his Eagle Scout community. A Scout leader mentioned the mission and our work delivering donated medical supplies to hospitals and clinics around the world. Around the same time, Tyler and his family were navigating what to do with unused medical supplies left behind after the passing of relatives. With Tyler’s mom working as a nurse, the family understood how valuable these supplies could be if they reached the right hands.

Instead of hosting a general donation drive, Tyler and his dad, Jeff, began looking for a way to ensure the other scouts could be as hands-on as possible. That search led them to Project C.U.R.E., and specifically to Kits for Kids: a program designed to give children access to basic medical and hygiene items in crisis settings.

“When we saw Kids for Kids,” Jeff shared, “we immediately thought how perfect this would be for Scouts. It’s hands-on, meaningful, and truly helps kids.”

Why Kits for Kids

For Tyler, choosing Kits for Kids as his Eagle Scout Project was intentional. Eagle Scout projects require leadership, planning, and a lasting impact. Many projects are local and physical, such as building structures or completing trail work. While those are equally important, Tyler wanted something that would continue making a worldwide difference long after his project was complete.

“I know a lot of Eagle Scout projects have short-term impact,” Tyler explained. “We wanted this to keep going. We wanted it to reach people and hopefully inspire other Scouts to do the same thing.”

The kits Tyler and his team assembled were ultimately distributed to children all around the world, extending the impact of a Colorado-based Scout troop far beyond their own community.

A Hands-On Experience

With around 16 Scouts participating, the packing day became an experience none of them will forget. Following Project C.U.R.E.-provided guidelines, the Scouts carefully assembled each kit, intentionally packing toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, bandages, and other essential supplies.

The most meaningful part happened before the Scouts added any supplies.

“We started by writing messages on the bags,” Tyler said. “That’s when it really hits you that this is going to a real kid who needs it.”

Those handwritten notes serve as more than decoration. They are a reminder to each child receiving a kit that they are seen, cared for, and not forgotten.

Jeff described watching the Scouts work together as especially powerful. One by one, bags moved through the process, filled by young hands that understood they were creating something important. It was efficient, organized, and genuinely fun.

Learning Leadership Through Service

“By the time you’re an Eagle Scout, younger Scouts are looking up to you,” Jeff explained. “You have to show you can lead a group, manage details, and see a project all the way through.”

Tyler raised funds, worked closely with Project C.U.R.E., shopped for the supplies, and documented every step of the process for review by an Eagle Scout board. In just a few weeks, he will formally present his project for final approval!

Tyler hopes this project becomes a legacy project, meaning future Scouts will continue assembling Kits for Kids year after year.

Seeing the World Differently

Through this experience, Tyler gained a new perspective on how small actions can make a meaningful difference.

“When we were buying the supplies, I realized it’s not a lot,” he reflected. “But it can make such a big impact.”

Knowing exactly where the kits were headed and understanding the need made the experience tangible. Every item placed in a bag had a purpose. Every kit represented relief for a family caring for a sick child.

An Invitation to Get Involved

When asked how he would pitch this project to other Eagle Scouts, Tyler kept it simple.

“It was easier than I thought,” he said. “We raised funds, worked step by step with Project C.U.R.E., and packed the kits together. It was a lot of fun, and you really feel the impact.”

That impact is why Kits for Kids exists.

What started years ago with a need for a single dose of children’s medicine has grown into a global program, built in collaboration with doctors and nurses who identified the most essential items needed to care for a child. Packed into lightweight drawstring bags that kids can easily carry, these kits now reach children in more than 135 countries.
